New Plymouth NZ

SEEM THE KIWIS HAVE BECOME SOCIALLY ACTICE AGAIN AND ARE IN A MASK FREE ZONE.

Good to hear that some fellow riders are getting back to almost normal Michael, with it being winter here I don’t think that is helping us with the current situation in the UK, lets hope that when our summer arrives, we will be out camping again. Sid

Friday the 22nd dawned fine and sunny and it was time to head off to New Plymouth for the BMW Club annual rally, my mate Rob and I headed out, me on the trusty K1100RS outfit and Rob on his lovely restored R100R Mystic,

we had a good ride with a couple of stops for a cuppa and a pie and arrived at the New Plymouth International Hotel in the afternoon in time to catch up with all the other members from all corners of NZ, just about 100 people turned up and time to catch up with a lot of old friends and swap stories etc.

Saturday dawned fine and the clubs local members had organized a number of rides for the day, an off road one for the GS boys to get their bikes dirty, a ride for the on road riders and a sightseeing bus trip for the people who wanted a leisurely day which included a nice lunch which Rob and I decided that was for us, on returning back to base it was time for the meeting proper which also included the annual AGM, so with all that sorted and out of the way, it was time for dinner a few wine’s and more catching up to do.

Sunday again was fine and the GS boys were off to play in the mud again, while us road riders headed off on the Forgotten Highway to Whangamomona for lunch, I’m sure Michael will remember our stay there a few years ago and I have to say it’s not changed and is still in a world of its own www.Whangamomona.com , we had a good ride there and back ( 200km ) and arrived back in time for the evening dinner and more socializing and raffle prizes, but no luck for Rob and I with that, but Rob did win the concours award, so all wasn’t lost, it turned out to be a really good weekend and next year’s rally will be in the South Island at Methven, so will have to wait and see how the World is by then ??

Monday morning and it was time to say out fair wells and hit the road home, again a good ride and good weather, the only down side was hitting the Auckland Motorway in the late Monday afternoon rush hour, I arrived home around 5.30 after a 400km ride to Gill making me a well-deserved cuppa.

Bye for now from the Rally sidecar driver ?
