Motorcycles, Mates and Memories

BOOK  REVIEW

Motorcycles,  Mates and Memories

by  Roy  and  Chris

I spotted this book advertised in a recent “Old Bike Mart“magazine.  I liked the front cover, which showed a racing sidecar outfit.  The book is written by Bill Snelling and it recalls his sixty years of British motorcycle sport.

There are photos of his father’s Vincent outfit when they were on holiday at Weymouth.  Bill and his father also attended the first Dragon Rally on the Vincent outfit.

Bill recalls decades of motorcycling madness; he admits that he was more successful off-road than on tarmac, although he did manage to win one race on tarmac.  He also worked as a dispatch rider and he spent time as a journalist for Motor Cycle Sport magazine.

The book contains 157 pages of which over 40 pages have photos, often three to a page. The outfit on the front cover shows Swiss Champion, Fritz Scheidegger, and his passenger, John Robinson.  Fritz and John were top racers in their day and they won the 1966  sidecar TT race.

I found this book a very interesting and light-hearted read.  It is priced at £16.99 and it is published by Veloce.  It can be bought from  www.veloce.co.uk
