It was total chaos at work on Thursday evening and I was suspecting the same for Friday but it was not to be and it was announced that Saturday would be a down day. Down day announcements are only known at the last minute, sometimes on the day itself which is a pity because you can’t plan anything.

The VJMC show at Uttoxeter was on this weekend and earlier in the year I could not commit to helping out in the Sidecar Village, as in previous years, because I was working, but at least fellow club member Michael would be there and helping out this year.

So it was a bit of a last minute plan to go to the Viking event at Seamer and I took the FJR, basically, on the solo I could keep on the move if the traffic got heavy or queued and with the weather perfect for the seaside there was no doubt traffic would be a little heavy to say the least.

The attendance this year was up on the previous two years, the weather, I have no doubt, played a part. The site, while not being all plush, is a good site with plenty of room, all the standard facilities you require, plus, large function room with entertainment each night, a takeaway, well stocked bar and you are made to feel welcome, which is most important.

With loads of places to visit so close and the fact the traffic can be heavy during the hot summer days, there was no run-out, very wise as keeping everyone together could have proved more than a challenge. Most took a ride out on the Saturday, some in small groups and some on their own and the coastal towns seemed to be the popular choice.

Chris receiving his award from Mart

Best outfit was won by Chris from South Yorks Sidecar Club and Norrie from Scotland won long distance, I thought Iwon a Tena on the lucky numbers, so at least I would have to stop and take a pee break on the way home, only to find out it was tenner in pound coins.

Oddjob, sorry Norrie, with his long distance award. Click on picture to see the real Oddjob

The Viking had erected two large shelters for those attending to use in the evening or if the weather was inclement, these were not used as the weather was hot and it was nice to sit outside in the cool of the evening. As Don said, “if we waited until it rained to put them up it would be too late”.

With Scarborough Bike Week kicking off on Sunday 4th July with the Barry Sheene Race Festival, I sort of wished I had the week off, but then on second thoughts, the place would have been littered with coppers on unmarked bikes and cameras, plus with the weather being so good I guess the place would have been packed. http://www.oliversmount.com/?f=events&id=26

The Wheels members would like to thank the Viking team for organising a great weekend.
