SLAC Summer Rally 2010

The one and only.

It was a little damp on the thursday setting up the tent this year at March for the SLAC Summer Rally. The little drizzle was not going to stop me having my planned barbeque, which I lit up early on so it was ready for tea time. Rebo took off down the shops and returned with a couple of burgers to burn. Lesley arrived, while Pearl and I were just about to tuck into our burgers, and was expecting a jacket spud; the trouble is there wasn’t one on the barbeque.  Lesley then went into March and returned with chips and a battered veggie burger, plus cream cakes and a 4 pack of Speckled Hen. Forgetting to do her jacket spud does have an upside and at least I can drink the beer to take away the pain of the swelling. The thing is I had already drunk a bottle of wine, so I was sort of numb anyway.

Friday and the sun came out, so a walk down town was in order. Popped into Freedom Motorcycles (Victory Dealer), plenty of bikes to have a look at. Also the new  Givi helmets were on display, the big thing about these are that they are lightweight compared to other helmets on the market.

Back onsite the field was beginning to fill up nicely and I contemplated what I was going to cook for tea.  With Lesley having chips on the thursday I thought she wouldn’t want chips again from the fish and chip van that Dave had arranged to visit the site. So plan B was put into operation and I cooked the jacket spuds plus a bucket of beef stew.

On the Friday a small group of us sat round a paint pot which contained raspberry jelly (you can use Blackcurrant jelly as a substitute) but do not under any circumstances use orange jelly , denatured alcohol (you can use Methylated spirit as a substitute) and agent 264 (no known substitute). This mixture, if mixed in the right amounts, in the correct order and left to infuse, this will burn cleanly and a half a paint pot amount will burn for approximately one hour.

Seems like a nice boy.....

I will say nothing Dickie.

Saturday and the planned run was from St Marys Church, Westry to Freedom Motorcycles to help raise money for the church which was destroyed by fire earlier this year ( BBC News )  As usual many watched the March parade (Fenland News) plus listened to the bands in the evening. Spav now knows why Dickie doesn’t go shopping with the girls, his arms resemble a gorilla after carrying several bags, all (so they say) filled with bargains.  Dave, Shirley, Jim and George laid on a cracking Barbeque early evening. Soon after some went into March to watch England play USA in the world cup, they found an excellent pub and felt right at home, not only do the women go to the loo holding hands, so did the men, even Mark and Dickie turned their bikes around side by side.

The evening was spent around the bonfire and it was quite late before I turned in, but I doubt I was as tired as Jeff and Ann who earlier had ridden 170 miles to look at an Outfit and 170 miles back after doing a deal; all being well Jeff should have picked it up by now.

Sunday morning and it was pack up time, after we got up which was well after 9am, the thing is we haven’t got a long run to get home. The Wheels team would like to thank SLAC for organising a super weekend and can you book the same weather for next year? Finally it was good to see Terry up and about visiting on friday and saturday, for some reason the subject of the day was Terry’s stockings! Just glad he didn’t go to the pub with the others to watch the footy.
