Another Irish bank robber!

For the bank holiday Lesley and I had decided some time ago, that we would splash out a bit and go b and b. You could have said, sort of a second honeymoon except, as we never had a honeymoon in the first place we can never have a second one.

We left fairly early and 165 miles later I was enjoying a bacon sarnie at Mickey Broxton’s, at the A41 /A534 roundabout http://www.mickeybroxtons.com/web/aboutus.htm   http://www.mickeybroxtons.blogspot.com from there we headed for Wrexham Industrial Estate to visit Len and Helen’s Rally. We passed the Kelloggs factory, but we didn’t see Tony the Tiger from the Frosties advert.

We arrived at The Club House http://www.randombunny.net/clubhouse/index.html to find 6 units on site and with the weather, should I say, on the chilly and damp side, the numbers were never going to be high.  After having a chat with everyone there we headed off to book into our accommodation for the night. We then took a ride around the local area, passing The Griffin pub on route, http://www.griffininntrevalyn.co.uk the meeting place of the Griffin Sidecar Club. When we arrived back at the club house a few more had turned up.

Most attending opted to have a meal in the club house which was very good; everyone had a go at guessing the number of marbles in the jar and the weight of the cake. The club house is roomy and very comfortable and there are showers shared with the people using the sports facilities. The only down side is the outlook, it isn’t the most scenic of views and it sort of reminds many of work, but for a fiver a night per unit you can’t expect too much.  Also if Len and Helen had as many turn up as in previous years, I am certain they would have been a bit pushed for room.

Sunday morning we arrived back early for the run-out with Alan and Val turning up shortly afterwards. The day started with bad news, sadly Helen received news that her younger brother had passed away, but Helen insisted she and Len would still lead the run-out. Those who have attended Len and Helen’s Rally know how famous they are for having little hiccups on route, but this year was the best run I have been on for some time. No wrong turnings, no one left behind, no one lost and all ending up at the Ponderosa,

The Pondy

http://www.ponderosacafe.co.uk  were we saw Mark, Karen, Martin and John who were on a run out from the Guzzi Rally at Wittington.

Our accommodation for the Sunday night was the Chainbridge Hotel, Llangollen and most welcome because the weather was quite cold, as Mark had point out, “one degree above fridge temperature” and we could see quite a few holiday makers heading home.

Chainbridge Hotel

I have lost count of how many times we have been to, past and through Llangollen. I had never been to the Motor and Motorcycle museum http://www.llangollenmotormuseum.co.uk but as it was only a short walk away from the hotel it made it easy to go and have a look around.

We had the customary ice cream in Llangollen, well, it’s never too cold for ice cream and a wander round before heading back to the hotel. An evening meal above the river and the now floodlit chainbridge. Next morning it was a case of getting home and going back to work on a late shift.
