At the museum you will see a comprehensive record of the great flood of 1947.
Also many photo albums, a video show and information on how the fens were drained.
I found this printed in the a news record:
"I was in the 1915 flood and this was only a pond by comparison," a farmer called John Laws told the Ontario PM at Southery Fen. "You can't discourage a man who was born in mud."

Note Ely cathedral in the background.

And today.
The picture on the left, let me explain.
We hadn't got a ladder or steps.
The dustbin on it's own wasn't tall enough.
But true to form good old fenland ingenuity solved it with a barra (barrow to others).
What could possibly go wrong!
